父亲：这些孩子究竟在看什么？
Father: What on earth are these kids watching?

母亲：我不知道。我想是警匪片。
Mother: I don’t know. Police Squad, I think.

父亲：有什么好看的？我所听到的都是枪声，尖利的刹车声和撞车声。
Father: Well, isn’t there something funny on? All I can hear are guns, screeching tires and cars crashing!

母亲：那仅仅是个电视剧。
Mother: It’s just a TV show.

父亲：我认为是警匪片太暴力。成长期间的孩子会认为伤人是可以的。
Father: I think Police shows are too violent. Once they are grown up, kids will think that hurting people is OK.

母亲：噢，其实，我认为人们不必太担心电视暴力问题。毕竟，你没有看到我们的孩子踢狗或互相殴打。
Mother: Oh, come on! I think people worry too much about TV violence. After all, you don’t see our kids kicking dogs or hitting each other.

父亲：没有，但是我看到他们在玩战争游戏，而且他们都要玩具手枪和武器。
Father: No, but I see them playing at war and they all want toy guns and weapons.

母亲：从我个人角度，我认为那些不好的连续剧也相当糟糕。孩子们反过来和父母谈论（这些连续剧）。这些剧给孩子们造成很坏的影响。这些剧也并不真实，我不想咱们孩子误以为电视里的那些家庭是普遍现象。
Mother: Well, personally, I think those silly sitcoms are pretty bad, too. The kids talk back to their parents and they’re always getting into trouble! They’re not realistic at all. I don’t want our kids to think those TV families are normal.

父亲：我知道你的意思，但你不认为暴力更糟糕吗？
Father: I know what you mean, but don’t you think that violence is worse?
